A setting of a poem by Ronald W. Cadmus about how hope whispers to us each moment, of every step we take in this unsteady world. A whisper that summons us to take the guiding hand, to see the bright star, to feel the reassurance that comes from trusting the whisper that guides our heart throughout our wandering. To hear the voice that helps us to trust, to believe eternity is forever.
Performed by the Hobart & William College Cantori Robert Cowles, conductor
Duration: 8’
Libretto:
Whoever loves
Finds safety on the long, dark road
Where light, at each distant turn
falls upon unharmed leaves
to assure our gaze
that no fear lies ahead,
nor stays within.
There on the unleveled way
is a steadfast hand
to hold us
to heal us
when we fall.
Let breath be still in the dim unknown
as silent moon, in drifting clouds
the gentle streams, over guiding rocks
the distant dance of firefly light
the soft twilight chants of woodland birds
the sacred hush of sleeping flowers
the noble guard of forest trees
with nature sing to spangled skies
reminding us
to be still
to trust
to believe
as hope whispers to our souls
in the night.
to be strong
to love
perchance to dream
as hope whispers
to our hearts
with its Light
